Meet Tat’uMagoba, a Xhosa resident living in the Cape Flats. As a former rifleman of the South African army, Mr. Magoba reflects on his days in the army during the 1980s. He expresses ‘the duty of a rifleman is to be a watchman. I always had a desire to protect my country. The reason I became a soldier is to protect my nation. I want peace and discipline in my county.’ He proudly points to his display of colorful wire wrapped bottles and says ‘I am no longer working so this craft keeps me busy’. He explains that due to his poor eyesight this craft is easier for his than bead work.
